Gigi Hadid Sparks Buzz After Being Spotted with Jollibee Fries in Latest Photoshoot

Gigi Hadid appears on the latest issue of Love Magazine, an independently run fashion publication based in Paris. On the cover, the model deviates from her usual glamour, opting instead for more character-driven looks inspired by films such as the ’90s cult classic Death Becomes Her.

Among the layouts shot, Gigi sports pink tresses and lounges on a couch in pajamas. For people on the internet, the image proved polarizing, seemingly referencing “stoner” culture with the cigarette—or “joint”—in her hand. Others, however, were quick to notice her snack of choice: a serving of fries from none other than Filipino fast food chain Jollibee.

Styled by Carine Roitfeld and photographed by Sebastian Faena, Gigi nonchalantly channel-surfs in baggy pants and mismatched socks. Her surroundings are intentionally messy, as the model seems too preoccupied with her lit ciggy and helping of fries.

Naturally, many Pinoys took immediate notice of her Jollibee order. "It's a big day for Jollibee," one commented on Instagram, echoing the sentiment of many that it is quite uncommon to see the fast food giant featured in fashion editorials. The "Uy Pilipins!" comments also poured in following the bee’s inclusion.

Others seemed to resonate with the imagery, with one user calling it a “stoner chic” image of Gigi. For context, a “stoner” is someone who regularly partakes in marijuana, or “weed,” and in pop culture is often associated with a laid-back, slightly disheveled aesthetic.

This led some individuals to be more up in arms about the shots, claiming there was a sense of appropriation behind the creative direction. “I feel ‘My culture is not your costume’ so bad,” one netizen quipped.
