Hand-in-hand with her co-stars Michelle Yeoh, Cynthia Erivo, and Jeff Goldblum, Ariana greeted legions of fans as they walked down the yellow carpet. Things took a drastic turn after Johnson jumped over a barricade and ran towards the pop star, placing his arm around her shoulders, before he was fended off by security personnel. "Get off of her! Get off of her! Don't touch her!" Cynthia was heard exclaiming as she pushed Johnson away.

Prior to the incident, Johnson had posted a series of Instagram stories where he was seen roaming Universal Studios and posing with photos promoting the premiere later that evening. Soon after, he revealed that he was "free" after being momentarily arrested. Upon posting footage of his intrusion, several fans called him out for his indecent behavior. Filipino singer Darren Espanto, who was among the celebrity guests at the premiere, commented, "You're the reason why we get less appearances in Asia."

Despite the initial shock of being accosted, Ariana took to Instagram to express gratitude for her brief time in Southeast Asia. "Thank you Singapore. We love you," she captioned a carousel of photos taken during the premiere event. The actress or her management have yet to come out any official statements regarding the incident with Johnson.
