This was what Karen Davila exclaimed after hearing Andrea Brillantes address public perceptions surrounding her more mature image. Andrea first took on a lead role in the television series Annaliza back in 2013, when she was only 13 years old. Now 23, she has grown up—and so have the roles she chooses to take on.

From filming an intimate scene in FPJ's Batang Quiapo to becoming Tanduay’s 2026 calendar girl, the Gen Z actress has evolved into a more daring and self-assured woman—a transformation that, unsurprisingly, does not sit well with everyone.

In the one-on-one interview, Karen Davila brought up the same questions many people have been asking since Andrea Brillantes—also known as Blythe—embraced this more mature image: “What is Blythe trying to prove? Bakit niya ito ginagawa?”

The actress and entrepreneur responded by pointing out how unfair it is to immediately assume that a woman must be trying to prove something simply because she dresses a certain way. “I don’t think people ask the same questions to men,” she said.

She explained that when men act sexy during mall shows, for instance, people rarely question their intentions. Nobody asks, “Bakit niya ’to ginagawa? Nalalaos na ba siya?” More often than not, audiences simply gush over them and move on. “Pero kapag babae gusto na maging sexy, ang dami nilang sinasabi,” she pointed out.

To directly address the assumptions surrounding her image shift, Andrea Brillantes clarified: “Ako, wala po akong triny i-prove or hindi ko siya ginawa para basagin yung image na Annaliza.”

She also emphasized that a woman’s body is constantly evolving, going through different phases throughout life, including pregnancy and menopause. Because of this, Andrea believes women should feel free to embrace and celebrate their bodies while they can. As she put it, “You’re only going to get that body once.”

The same mindset applied to her decision to pose as a calendar girl. For her, the explanation was simple and unapologetically straightforward: “Nag sexy calendar ako kasi sexy ako! 'Yun lang.

In the interview, Andrea acknowledged that not everyone will like her, and that’s okay. She emphasized that it has never been her goal to please everyone or to seek validation from everyone online. Instead, she remains “forever grateful sa mga fans ko na tinatanggap ako for who I am.”
