Any millennial who grew up in the Philippines would have watched the groundbreaking fantasy series Encantadia back in 2005. The show featured four beautiful fairy-like heroines called Sang'gres and their intertwining stories of love, power, and independence in the make-believe land of Encantadia.
It was a revolutionary show when it came to female representation. Any Filipina who has seen it since could truly say it was pretty empowering to see strong women—with diverse skin colors, facial features, and body types might we add—on primetime TV. That said, it came as no surprise that the internet was shookt to see three out of the four original leads reunite, even if it was just for Instagram!
“The warmest welcome for our newest Kapamilya, our dearest sister @m_sunshinedizon. Taken after @anakarylle and I surprised her for @_magandangbuhay,” Iza Calzado, a.k.a. Amihan, wrote in her caption. The photo, which was taken at Karylle’s not-so-secret-anymore OOTD spot showed the three clad in summer-ready ‘fits! Iza sporting a breezy white eyelet midi-dress and Karylle in a deep-V puff-sleeved frock. While Sunshine Dizon was quite in character in a floral top and trousers that kept to a black and red color scheme—Pirena definitely would approve!
Netizens were quick to gush and posted a slew of comments on the photo that’s been reposted on all the actresses’ personal accounts. Even celebrities like Janine Gutierrez and Vina Morales chimed in!
Other commenters were quick to point out that Danaya, played by Diana Zubiri, should join their next OOTD post. We can only wait and see!
The last time the quartet reunited was for TV movie Mystified in 2019 which streamed on iFlix. We actually caught up with the mythical four for a feature and even had them react to their old outfit photos! Watch the video below if you’re up for more Encantadia nostalgia.
