ICYMI, Emma Watson had the wittiest yet still graceful reaction to a recent photo mix-up in the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts special.
On January 1, HBO Max debuted the special episode, which reunited the three lead actors of the franchise: Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson. In one scene where Emma discussed auditioning for her breakout role, the footage cut to what appeared to be a cute throwback photo of the 31-year-old actress as a little girl.
However, eagle-eyed fans were quick to note that the picture they showed was actually that of Emma Roberts from American Horror Story and Scream Queens. The actress originally posted that photo on her Instagram account back in 2012.
Emma Watson brushed off the mix-up and simply laughed it off, though. She reposted the photo on her Instagram and gave a shoutout to Emma Roberts in the caption. "I was NOT this cute," she wrote, adding the hashtag #emmasistersforever.
The HBO Max Instagram account also commented on her post with a Harry Potter reference: "Are we sure this wasn’t the effect of a Polyjuice Potion?" LOL!
The network also acknowledged the error in a separate post. "Well spotted, Harry Potter fans! You brought an editing mistake of a mislabeled photograph to our attention. New version up shortly," it said.
The special Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts premiered on January 1, 2022. It marked the first time that most of the cast members reunited after Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, the final installment of the 10-year film franchise, had wrapped up filming more than a decade ago.
