Whether or not you liked how HBO's Game of Thrones finally came to an end, one thing is clear: We’re all going to miss this massively successful show that had its fans coming up with their own theories, mourning the deaths of their fave characters, and rooting for their own bets to sit on the Iron Throne. That said, no one is going to miss Game of Thrones more than the actors themselves, who gave their literal blood, sweat, and tears to put together a great show—this, of course, includes Emilia Clarke, whose farewell message to Daenerys Targaryen will make any true-blue fan cry buckets of tears. After all, Mad Queen or not, one simply can't deny how brilliantly she portrayed the role for eight whole seasons.
Earlier today, just a few hours before the very last episode of GoT premiered, the actress took it to Instagram to say goodbye to the character she played for almost a decade. “Finding the words to write this post has left me overwhelmed with how much I want to say but how small words feel in comparison to what this show and Dany have meant to me,” Emilia starts her caption. “The mother of dragons chapter has taken up the whole of my adult life. This woman has taken up the whole of my heart. I’ve sweated in the blaze of dragon fire, shed many tears at those who left our family early, and wrung my brain dry trying to do Khaleesi and the masterful words, actions (and names) I was given, justice.”
“Game of Thrones has shaped me as a woman, as an actor and as a human being. I just wish my darling dad was here now to see how far we’ve flown,” the actress writes, paying tribute to her late father who died of cancer two years ago.
Not forgetting to thank the show’s loyal fans who’ve supported them since day one, Emilia ends her post, “To you, dear kind magical fans, I owe you so much thanks, for your steady gaze at what we’ve made and what I’ve done with a character that was already in the hearts of many before I slipped on the platinum wig of dreams. Without you there is no us.”
“And now our watch has ended.” Aww!
