"Mayroon tayong nakita na bagong teknolohiya na hindi natin ginamit sa pagplano ng EDSA rehabilitation kaya in-instructionan ko si [Transportation Secretary] Vince Dizon at si Manny Bonoan ng [Department of Public Works and Highways] at sinabi ko pause muna doon sa rehabilitation," said the President.

(We saw new technology that we haven't used in planning the EDSA rehabilitation, so I instructed Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon and Secretary Manny Bonoan of the DPWH to tell them to pause the rehabilitation.)

The President acknowledged the need for EDSA's rehabilitation, while admitting that the current plan will cause significant inconvenience and even heavier traffic. Thus, the government will be developing a better plan that will reduce the initial proposed timeline of three years to just six months to a year.

Following the EDSA rehabilitation suspension, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Don Artes announced the cancellation of the odd-even scheme along EDSA, which was scheduled to start this June 16.
The cancellation of the aforementioned coding scheme will allow concerned agencies to revisit the plan and explore other traffic-mitigating options for the EDSA rehabilitation in general. Thus, the MMDA will continue implementing the existing coding scheme.
