Did you know that September 21 is already an important date in Philippine history? In 1972, the former and late president Ferdinand Marcos Sr. declared martial law in the country. On the same date 53 years later, thousands of Filipinos gather to stand up against corruption.
Due to the recent series of news about corruption in the nation's flood control projects and the strong nepotism in the government, several activist groups and leaders organized two rallies—Baha sa Luneta and Trillion Peso March.
Led by anti-corruption group Tama Na and activist group Bayan, Baha Sa Luneta called the public to flood Luneta, Manila in the morning. Then, protesters headed to the People Power Monument in Quezon City for the Trillion Peso March, which was organized by Church Leaders Council for National Transformation.
