News of YouTuber Lloyd Cadena's passing last September 4 flooded social media with an outpouring of grief. After announcing his death on Lloyd's official Facebook page, his family took to the platform once again to disclose the cause just two days later. The post regrettably revealed that the internet star had tested positive for COVID-19 and suffered from a heart attack days later.
“Lloyd was confined in the hospital on September 1 due to high fever and dry cough. He was tested for COVID-19 on the same day which the result came out positive on September 3,” his family explained. “On September 4, 5am he was seen by the staff unresponsive and pale looking. As informed by the doctor, he suffered a heart attack while asleep. He was cremated yesterday and his remains is in our house in Cavite in the meantime.”
Having lived his life with a generous heart while spreading humor and joy through his YouTube videos—he had over five million subscribers—the 26-year-old was undeniably beloved by many. That said, the internet continues to mourn Lloyd, not least of all his fellow social media stars and vloggers who’ve taken to their online accounts to express their grief and pay tribute to their late friend.
YouTuber Michelle Dy, one of Lloyd’s closest friends, left a series of emotional messages on her Instagram story last week. "I love you so much Lloyd...and I thank the Lord that I was able to [make] you feel how much you mean to me...I don't regret anything because I know deep inside I expressed how much I love you and how much I appreciated you and I know you felt that," she wrote. She also shared a video of herself in tears while listening to Mariah Carey 's Thank God I Found You.
Michelle’s since changed her profile picture on Instagram to black and posted a short clip of them together on her page.
Meanwhile, fellow vlogger Ivana Alawi remembered the YouTube star by granting his last wish from her. “Hinamon ako ni Kween Lloyd Cafe Cadena sa kanyang last vlog na in-upload niya sa kaniyang channel. Ang request nya, mag-carwash kami ng bus together,” she wrote on her Facebook post. “Nakakalungkot man at hindi natin magagawa ng magkasama ito at wala ka dito sa tabi ko, itutuloy ko ang hamon mo dahil alam ko nanonood ka diyan sa heaven at masisiyahan ka dito.”
She also mentioned that all the proceeds from her video titled Buswash Para Kay Lloyd Cadena will go straight to his family.
Global songstress Mariah Carey, who Lloyd was a huge fan of, also left a message for the internet star upon learning of his passing through her Philippine fan page on Twitter. “So sad. RIP Lloyd, you will be missed. Sending my prayers to his family and friends during this difficult time,” wrote the singer.
