Cats, the four-legged furry creatures that strut around like they’re God’s greatest creation. While some cats are pampered to the point of being surrogate children to some families, there are a lot of unfortunate little kitties who roam the streets left to fend for themselves. Street cats can be seen in almost every corner of the country and the posh business district of Makati is no exception. Cats can be found roaming the central business district’s busy streets with some even taking shelter in the city's prominent buildings and malls.
A surprising development for street cats in Makati is the establishment of The Cattery at Ascott Makati. The Cattery is a permanent cat shelter found at the basement parking of Ascott Makati. Launched last July, it houses about 10 of the hotel’s usual furry friends and provides them with nutritious food, water, shelter, and forms of entertainment—talk about a five-star experience.
Here’s a look at The Cattery at Ascott Makati:
This shelter is a part of Ascott Makati’s community welfare projects. In fact, it is the hotel’s employees who built the shelter and pimped it up for its furry residents.
To make this project sustainable, Ascott Makati partnered with CARA Welfare Philippines and Pawssion Project. CARA performed spaying and neutering services for the cats to ensure that the population of cats can be controlled i.e. they won’t be breeding more kittens while in captivity.
Meanwhile, Pawssion Project has been providing assistance to the hotel in terms of further improving The Cattery and ensuring that they know how to properly run the shelter and care for the cats in captivity. Ascott Makati is dedicated to enhancing this initial project and create awareness about animal welfare.
Ascott Makati is located at Glorietta 4, Ayala Center, Makati City. For more inquiries, visit the Ascott Brand's Facebook Page.
