Every day, we discover a mind-blowing fact about Squid Game, like it took 13 years before it was created into a series. This time, our report is related to a Pinoy celebrity: Carlo Aquino revealed that he almost appeared in the hit Netflix thriller!
Last year, the Kapamilya actor uploaded a handwritten note from Squid Game director Hwang Dong Hyuk, where he expressed his excitement about working with him. In a recent Instagram story, Carlo shared the same post and wrote that it was "supposedly a role for Squid Game." It's worth noting that Hwang Dong Hyuk is also the director of the blockbuster Korean movie Miss Granny, which had a local remake starring Sarah Geronimo.

Cosmopolitan Philippines reached out to Carlo about this and he relayed that he auditioned for the part of Ali in Squid Game. But due to the pandemic, this did not push through. If you can remember, Ali is a worker from Pakistan who wasn't paid by his employer. To sustain his family, he joined the game in high hopes of winning the huge cash prize.

On what the audition process is like, Carlo said: "They sent me an audition script, mga five scenes from the series. They gave me guidelines on how to shoot. Shoot on my phone cam lang daw. Tapos binigay ko sa Star Magic."

If this casting happened, Carlo would've worked with another Pinoy actor in Squid Game. His name is Christian Lagahit, aka Player 276, who is an English teacher and marketing consultant based in South Korea.

Squid Game is a nine-episode drama about 456 players who are competing to win 45.6 billion won (around P2 billion). The show is one of Netflix's most successful original series this year and as of writing, it's at the number one spot in Netflix Philippines' Top 10. It also ranked second in the global Netflix chart.
