Since the resurgence of the ‘90s aesthetic in 2019, it continues to fuel fashion and beauty trends this 2020. Not that we’re complaining, because we’re all for baguette bags, slip dresses, and those cropped T-shirt cardigans being back in style. That said, there is one trend we didn’t expect to make a comeback (perhaps because of all the kitschiness it was associated with in yesteryears): the butterfly motifs.
Any ‘90s kid would know that butterfly clips were a BIG deal back then, especially with Mariah Carey and Jolina Magdangal being the poster girls for the aforementioned trend. Butterfly prints and accents are definitely all the rage now again, and we see a lot of accessory brands incorporating it in their jewelry. (Butterflies are also symbolic in hit K-drama It’s Okay to Not Be Okay.) So it’s not surprising that even celebrities have hopped on to this iconic ‘90s trend! The easiest way to join in seems to be in the form of an Instagram filter.
We’ve spotted Kathryn Bernardo, Janine Gutierrez, Chie Filomeno, and Ylona Garcia using butterfly-themed filters for their selfies and videos. And most recently, Nadine Lustre has changed her profile picture on Instagram to a butterfly-adorned image.
There are a lot of filters you can easily search for on Instagram, even Kylie Cosmetics has its own custom butterfly filter, but two of the most popular ones are from @ilovediany and @er__ger. This video below shows the list of butterfly filters and their creators so you can try them out yourself!
If you ask us, it’s a cute way to add a pop of color and whimsy detail to your selfies!
