It’s official! Boracay is definitely making a comeback as Conde Nast Traveler just hailed its white sand beaches as the Best Island in Asia for 2019! The title was previously held by Siargao last year for its 2018 survey.
The accolade comes just over a year after Boracay reopened, following its six-month long rehabilitation process. According to the acclaimed international travel magazine, the verdict was voted on by a record breaking 600,000 registered voters for their 32nd annual Reader’s Choice Awards.
“This itty-bitty island (just under four square miles) in the Western Philippines is as close to a tropical idyll as you’ll find in Southeast Asia, with gentle coastlines and made-for-Instagram sunsets. Fold in a thriving nightlife scene, and you have one of the top tourist spots in the region,” Traveler describes. The publication also notably hailed Boracay as the fifth Best Island Beach for Swimming and Snorkeling back in 2016, and continued to praise the island, as it provides readers with a rundown of Boracay’s best features.
As for the rest of Traveler’s list, the country’s islands continued to dominate this season’s survey for the Asia category with Cebu and Palawan coming in at second and fourth places, respectively. Making up the rest of the top five Asian islands are Malaysia’s Penang at third, and unsurprisingly, Indonesia’s Bali at fifth.
If this achievement was the push you needed to visit the newly rehabilitated Boracay, consider staying in some of their best luxury resorts for a fine and comfortably lavish experience.
