“Quarantine made me do it,” fashion photographer BJ Pascual candidly tells Preview when we asked about him starting a YouTube channel. In case you missed it, the lensman dropped his channel trailer yesterday, which featured clips and audio snippets from celebrities like Anne Curtis, Nadine Lustre, Julia Barretto, Liza Soberano, Kathryn Bernardo, and more. Also, superstar vlogger Mimiyuuuh made a witty cameo you shouldn't miss!
Since the release of his book "Push" in 2015, the photographer has been getting a lot of inquiries about how he made it in the fashion industry and how aspiring photographers can work out a career for themselves. With his YouTube channel officially launching this Saturday, he hopes to connect with young creatives even more, as well as feature his favorite celebrities in the process. In this exclusive interview with Preview, BJ talks about why vlogging is his next big project and what people can expect from his channel.
What made you want to start a YouTube channel?
Honestly, quarantine made me do it. [Laughs.] During the entire quarantine, strangely enough, I would get tagged in [IG] stories about my book, and some would request for a part two. The main purpose of the book when it came out was a sort of guide for young creatives, and since the book is already five years old, I thought it would be nice to share the things I’ve learned since "Push"—also, to bring that learning experience to a different format.
What can audiences expect from your channel?
An insight on how the industry works that they won’t really learn from school. Plus, lots of chikahan with your fave artistas and industry professionals like makeup artists, stylists, editors and art directors, mixed in with photography tips and tricks.
Can you give us a hint on what your first video will be about?
The first episode will be like the first chapter of my book: just an introduction and how I started in the fashion industry. But my second episode will have some behind-the-scenes clips and chikahan with Liza [Soberano]!
Congratulations, and we're excited for your vlogs, BJ!
