K-Dramas and Korean movies have the ability to get hearts racing with all their cute interactions, cheesy lines, and declarations of love, but some of them can leave you crushed, too. Some flicks from the land of Hallyu see characters stuck in the friendzone, longing for The One That Got Away, or even as star-crossed lovers who simply can't be together. Next time you're in the mood for a good cry, there are 10 bittersweet Korean movies that stand out.
There's the 2016 film A Man and a Woman starring Gong Yoo and Jeon Do Yeon as two strangers who gravitate towards one another, but can't pursue a romantic relationship due to complications in their lives. From Crash Landing on You actress Son Ye Jin, there's The Classic, featuring individual love stories that later intertwine thanks to an old necklace and a letter.
Be warned—happy endings are hard to come by in these films, but they'll make your heart hurt in the best way possible. Ready your tissues!
