No need to go too far for a destination wedding!

Destination weddings continue to become more and more popular among brides-to-be, but just because you’re planning a wedding away from the city doesn't mean you have to go too far. It’s definitely possible to hold your nuptials away from the stress and noise without going through great lengths and distances.

The areas south of Manila continue to gather all sorts of couples who want scenic and intimate ceremonies that aren’t hampered by the bustle of the metro. That said, why not consider Laguna? It’s anywhere between an hour to a two-hour drive from Manila, blessed with picturesque sights and untouched vestiges of nature, from rolling hills and mountains to lush forests and gardens. Plus, Laguna has no shortage of stunning churches where you can exchange vows!

We put together a list of some of the most beautiful churches in Laguna so you can mark your special day in style.

1. Montecito Chapel (Our Lady of Guadalupe)

Manicured lawns, scenic views, and a dainty chapel on a tiny hill in the midst of lush gardens and trees. The Montecito Chapel, also known as the Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel, is a dream venue for any bride and groom looking into a rustic affair. With white walls and wooden beams, there’s a simple elegance to the venue that makes its space in the suburban lawns of Nuvali. While the use of the chapel is strictly limited to Montecito homeowners, non-residents can make use of the church through an endorsement.

The city of San Pablo, Laguna is its own haven for destination weddings, with its own set of pretty venues and enchanting gardens. 3. San Pablo Cathedral (Cathedral Parish of Saint Paul the First Hermit)

Here’s another grand, old cathedral for those looking into a vintage-themed wedding. The San Pablo Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral Parish of Saint Paul the First Hermit, was built in the 17th century and still maintains its Baroque facade. The 400-year-old church has gone through some renovations, however, with the church restored to its former glory with a few modern elements. It boasts of a sweeping center aisle in marble and gold leaf, a noteworthy detail for brides who dream of the perfect walk.

5. Sto. Niño de Cebu Parish

This beautiful parish painted in red will definitely stand out in a charming suburban wedding! Located in the upscale neighborhood of Southwoods in Laguna, the Sto. Niño de Cebu Parish still retains elements of the old, Baroque style our churches are traditionally designed in, mixed with its own modern flair. The church also features a manicured garden, and a courtyard with a fountain for charming nuptial photos.

6. Blessed Sacrament Parish

This church in stone and concrete has more than what meets the eye. Although its exterior can be a little unassuming, it’s the interiors that truly impress. Peek inside and you will be impressed by its sloped panel ceilings, all painted in white with a section of glass in the middle. The retablo by the altar is decked out in wooden panels, giving the church a current vibe. Aside from hint of marble throughout, modern black chandeliers hang from the ceiling instead of old candelabras. It’s a great choice for a bride who wants to keep up with the times.

7. Diocesan Shrine of St. Therese of the Child Jesus

If UP Diliman has its Parish of the Holy Sacrifice, then the University of the Philippines Los Baños has the Diocesan Shrine of St. Therese of the Child Jesus, known to its alumni as the UPLB Chapel. With a tall, sloped roof and stained glass that runs down its facade, the church effortlessly incorporates outdoor elements in its design. Inside, the retablo is adorned with stone bricks, and its ceiling fitted in sleek wooden panels. A wood and stone sculpture of Jesus on the cross also hangs above.

This venue is best for brides who are keen on a unique setting. Instead of the conventional four walls, everything at the chapel is completely outdoors, nestled in the midst of a forest, save for a suspended concrete ceiling and triangular glass panels that run down the middle.
