The COVID-19 crisis has thrown millions of lives off course, and there's no real way of knowing exactly what the world order will look like once this pandemic eventually recedes. Those of us who are able to work from home realize that our situation is distinctly privileged: We need only worry about the security of our resources and how we should get used to the "new normal" once this lockdown is over. We don't have to face perils daily to earn a living.
Health workers are tirelessly tackling the virus head-on, and without then, the world would be in complete shambles. This global emergency has illuminated the imperishable significance of blue-collar workers, who are the valves to contemporary life as we know it. They are frontliners, too. As a society rattled by crisis, we fully depend upon them more than ever to ensure that supermarkets, banks, pharmacies, and other urgently-needed institutions and systems remain operational. Security guards keep watch around the clock to protect our villages. Garbage collectors literally deal with contaminated items face-to-face. Delivery workers keep our pantries and refrigerators stocked, and, just importantly, they afford us the peace of mind that comes with knowing that relief is just a dial away.
In an uplifting effort, artists have taken to social media, posting heartwarming illustrations of health workers, soldiers, security guards, and others. Take a look at some of them below:
Art has always been a poignant way to share ideas and enshrine things that matter. Artworks made in the time of COVID-19 will outlast the mass panic and structural disarray, and these tributes to the frontliners will immortalize the fact that this crisis was not without its heroes and triumphs.
