In an exclusive tell-all interview with Tim Yap, Angelina Mead King—then Ian King—opens up about her transition and the struggles that she and wife, Joey, had to go through.
Angie, short for Angelina, has shared in the interview published in the Philippine Star, that Joey knew about her penchant for women's clothes long before she came out on social media a few days ago. The two met in 2006 and got married in 2011. When asked when she told her spouse, "A few months into our relationship. I told her I like to wear women’s underwear and it escalated from there," she answers.
Angie was seven or eight years old when she first realized she fancied wearing girls' stuff. "There was always that interest ever since I was a kid. Like I would sneak into the maids’ room—sadly—and I’d borrow stuff. And then weirdly enough, my dad didn’t always have a partner in the house because my mom and dad were separated. So there were not much women’s clothes at home so the maid’s was like the first and then as it progressed, wherever I could borrow," she reveals.
This admission, however, didn't happen without challenges. "Just like in The Danish Girl, I broke her because she lost face where her knight in shining armor wanted to be a princess," Angie explains. "Joey has had her struggles, we had struggles, but we never separated over it. We have been working through it. I have a counselor, she has a counselor, we talk to a lot of friends, family."
While her coming out came as a surprise to many, both she and Joey have been shown an outpouring of love and support that Angie feels she's still "dreaming. I can’t believe it is happening like this."
