Angel Locsin has proven she doesn’t need a magical stone to become a hero: The actress has just been hailed as part of Forbes Asia’s "Heroes of Philanthropy" list, honoring 30 individuals "committed to solving some of the most pressing issues facing the Asia-Pacific." The list was released last Monday, December 2.

Forbes recognized Angel’s relief and aid efforts directed towards victims of violence and natural disasters, as well as the conflict in Mindanao.

If you can recall, Angel famously skipped this year’s ABS-CBN Ball, instead choosing to donate the amount she would have spent on a gown to Bantay Bata. Angel also donated one million pesos and distributed truckloads of supplies and relief goods to victims of the Mindanao earthquakes in October this year.

Forbes also noted her membership in the Rural Missionaries of the Philippines, where she donated and distributed food packets and school supplies to displaced victims from the Marawi conflict. She was quoted saying, "These are urgent times when we have to act as fast as we can to save lives and rebuild communities, and we don’t even have to think why."

On their website, Forbes wrote:

"Over the past decade, Locsin has donated as much as 15 million pesos to causes such as educational scholarships for students, supporting the economic and political rights of indigenous people, and ending violence against women and children.

"Her donations have also helped roughly 500 families hit by some of the country’s largest disasters: Tropical Storm Ondoy in 2009, Typhoon Habagat in 2012 and Typhoon Haiyan in 2013, one of the deadliest storms on record, leaving 6,300 dead.

"Locsin has also inspired many of her millions of social media followers to give back. ‘It’s like taking little steps towards substantive, holistic change for the future of the next generations,’ she says. ‘The only motivation we need is being part of humanity.’”

The list is unranked and honors all heroes equally. Angel joins the likes of Filipino businessman Hans Sy, as well as Chinese tycoon Jack Ma.

Congratulations, Angel! Such a well-deserved achievement.
