Andrew Garfield has had the internet on its knees ever since his return to the big screen with Tik, Tik…Boom and Spider-Man: No Way Home. As the online world’s current obsession, revered for both for his marvelous acting chops and his brilliant yet pure wit, it’s almost hard to believe anyone can keep themselves from being swayed by the actor’s charms. That said, things didn't always go Andrew's way.

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the 38-year-old admitted he once tried out for the role of Prince Caspian in the Narnia franchise. The film, which was the second installment to the fantasy series, came out in 2008 and starred Ben Barnes in the titular role. Before he landed the gig, however, he had a worthy opponent in Andrew.

“I remember I was so desperate. I auditioned for Prince Caspian in The Chronicles of Narnia and I thought, 'This could be it, this could be it,'” recalled Andrew. As per the actor, at this stage of the audition process, the prospects for the role had already been narrowed down to just the two of them. In the end, Ben won the part and Andrew was left to “nag” his agent for an explanation. “Why not me?” he repeatedly asked.

Her eventual answer according to Andrew? “It’s because they don’t think you’re handsome enough.” We know, we’re just as baffled as you are right now.

Despite this setback though, Andrew only had good things to say about the Shadow and Bone star. “Ben Barnes is a very handsome, talented man. So in retrospect, I’m not unhappy with the decision and I think he did a beautiful job,” he told ET.
