Andrea Brillantes has been in the local entertainment industry since she was seven years old. Having grown up in front of the cameras, Preview's July 2023 cover girl has already dealt with her fair share of controversies and rumors.
Unlike many up-and-coming stars her age, however, Andrea isn’t actually shy to respond to bashers and get candid about her past issues. For instance, the Drag You & Me star recently opened up about handling harsh comments in an interview with iWantTFC.
Alluding to her previous feud with fellow Kadenang Ginto leading lady Francine Diaz, Andrea admitted, “Nagkaroon ako ng issue before. Actually, hindi ko siya hinayaan. Sinagot ko rin siya pero pinili ko siyang hayaan noon, pero kasi nadamay na ‘yung relationship ko.”
“Gusto kong maging masaya lang ‘yung relationship ko noon so I feel like I needed to answer na para i-confront na ‘yung mga misconceptions sa akin na nang-aaway ako, nanugod ako,” Andrea shared, referring to rumors that she once confronted Francine about her relationship with ex-boyfriend Seth Fedelin.
Beyond denying the incident, Andrea clarified that she only spoke up to clear her name, not to attack her castmates. “Hindi naman ‘yun nangyari at all [na] nag-plastic ako, suplada ako, problematic ako. I was never problematic, lagi lang nilang napapansin lahat ng ginagawa ko,” she said. “Gagawan nila ng mali and gagawan nila ng issue, and i-de-defend ko sarili ko. Tapos tatawagin akong problematic, e hindi naman problematic ang pag-defend sa sarili.”
Andrea also added that she especially dislikes being called “problematic” because she prefers to remain unbothered most of the time. “‘Yun siguro pinaka-hate ko na sinasabi nilang problematic ako. Pero ‘pag kilala mo ako as a person, talagang wala akong paki honestly. Kung may problems man ako, madalas sa boys, ‘yung ganon. ‘Yung mga sinasabi nila sa’kin, ang layo talaga,” she shared.
That said, Andrea only responds to hateful comments involving her family and loved ones. Otherwise, she just ignores her worst critics and focuses on her personal achievements instead.
“Naapektuhan lang ako kapag dinadamay na ‘yung family ko or kapag nadadamay na ang relationship ko kasi ‘yun ang mahalaga sa akin. Kailangan mo minsan i-angat ‘yung sarili mo, kailangan mong buhatin sarili mong upuan,” she said. “Di ko na kailangan banggitin ‘yung mga narating ko, sabihin nanaman nila na mayabang ako, di ‘ba?”
She then concluded, “It’s kinda stupid for me. So why waste my time when I know I’m better?”
