Alex Eala is set to break new ground with her upcoming debut at Wimbledon. Competing in the prestigious tournament is something the 20-year-old describes as a “dream match,” and she assures fans she’ll be at her best on the court. Never one to overlook her heritage, she received a meaningful gift from Nike—an emblem of home that allows her to carry the Philippines with her into the game.

Alex is typically seen wearing Nike sportswear from head to toe during her matchups. For Wimbledon, she’s adding a personal touch to her look: a hair tie inspired by the sampaguita, the Philippine national flower.

Describing it as “a reminder of where I come from and everything that brought me here,” Alex reflects on the importance of honoring her roots. “Ang sampaguita ay paalala ng aking pinanggalingan at ng kulturang lagi kong dala-dala,” she shares in an Instagram post. Etched on the box containing the hair tie is a meaningful statement: “Kung may tinanim, may aanihin”—a nod to the hard work she’s put in as an athlete and the hope that it will bear fruit.

In an interview with ABS-CBN Sports, Alex Eala expressed her excitement for her upcoming matches at Wimbledon. “I’m playing Centre Court of Wimbledon on my debut against the defending champion. I couldn’t ask for more. I’m gonna enjoy it and remember it forever,” she told correspondent Dyan Castillejo.

While acknowledging how tough the past few weeks have been, the athlete remains determined as she pushes toward new milestones—not just for herself, but for the Philippines. “Siyempre pagod, pero 'yan talaga. That’s the life of a tennis player,” she said. “For sure, I’m ready. I hope you guys are ready for a good fight.”
