Alex reached the Round of 16 at the Linz Open, where she faced Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko. She bowed out 4-6, 5-7 after a match that stayed close across both sets.

The match had its swings, with Alex taking early control in the second set after going up 5-1 before Jelena found her rhythm and edged her way back into the set to close it out. It was their first meeting on clay, with the Latvian player leaning on her experience in the final stretch.

For her Round of 16 finish, Alex earned €15,690, or around P1.1 million, according to the WTA.

What Is the Linz Open?

The Linz Open, officially known as the Upper Austria Ladies Linz, has been part of the WTA circuit since 1987. It has shifted across different tiers over the years and now holds WTA 500 status, placing it among the tour’s higher-level events.

The tournament has also seen a lineup of past champions that includes former world No. 1 players like Maria Sharapova, Justine Henin, Victoria Azarenka, and Angelique Kerber.

In 2026, the event introduced indoor clay courts, marking a shift from the indoor hard courts used in previous editions.
