Alex Eala continues to make her mark on the global stage. The 21-year-old tennis star was recently named to TIME’s list of the year’s most influential rising stars, with her mentor and tennis legend Rafael Nadal personally writing her tribute. She is currently representing the Philippines at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan.

Now, Alex is making headlines for an entirely different reason. A recent interaction with a fan has gone viral after the athlete called him out for throwing a cap—bringing attention to an often-overlooked aspect of sports: proper fan etiquette.

On September 30, Alex defeated Taiwanese tennis player Joanna Garland to advance to the quarterfinals at the 20th Asian Games. After the match, she took time to sign merchandise for fans as she made her way off the court.

The otherwise routine interaction took an unexpected turn when a Filipino supporter tossed a cap toward Alex, apparently hoping to get her autograph. Visibly caught off guard, the athlete stopped to remind the fan of the proper way to approach players for a signature.

The World No. 18 dropped her backpack and walked toward the man, telling him, “Sir, hindi ka dapat nagtatapon ng mga gamit sa mga players.” After a brief pause, she calmly continued, “If you say it nicely, I will sign for you, pero ‘wag ka magtatapon, please.”

The man immediately apologized, and Alex still signed the cap before attending to other fans waiting in the area. She continued signing their items until someone eventually guided her out of the venue.

It was a brief interaction, but one that offered a timely reminder about proper fan etiquette. As Alex’s profile continues to grow on the world stage, so does the attention surrounding her—and the moment underscored that admiration for an athlete should always come with respect for their personal space and boundaries.
