Adriana Lima has made her mark in the fashion industry as one of the elite Victoria's Secret Angels. She's even walked on the pink runway a total of 18 times already, along with VS veterans Lily Aldridge and Alessandra Ambrosio. But in a recent Instagram post, the Brazilian supermodel made a huge career statement.
Adriana reveals that she "will not take [off] her clothes anymore for an empty cause." She reflects on her own mindset as she wakes up every morning, heavily concerned about how she looks. Adriana writes, "everyday in my life, I wake up thinking [about] how I look. Was I going to be accepted in my job? And in that moment I realized that majority of women probably wake up every morning trying to fit in a stereotype that society, social media, the fashion [industry], etc. [have] imposed."
Her realization follows after a friend confided in her "to share that she was unhappy with her body." She goes on to arrive at a decision to embrace her flaws and to stop conforming to societcony's standards. "I am tired of the impositions...we can't [continue] living in a world with such superficial values, it's not fair." She emphasized that living like that is "not physically and mentally healthy."
Adriana has also unfollowed Victoria's Secret big boss Ed Razek and the brand's official Instagram account. So while it's still unclear if her words and actions are a prelude to hanging up her angel wings for good, we fully support Adriana for taking a stand and empowering women to love themselves, flaws included!
