No celebration feels complete without cake. As the year draws to a close, people find themselves at a vantage point—looking back with clarity, while turning their attention to what lies ahead. In this in-between moment, gatherings feel more intentional, and the act of sharing slices takes on a more heartfelt meaning.

What Is an Achievement Cake, and Why Should You Have One?

The “hear me out” cake might ring a bell for you. Back in 2024, friends would prepare small printed photos of their most unhinged, weird, or obscure crushes—from actual people to animated characters—and attach them onto a small pole-like object like a toothpick. They would then announce these admirations, and place them on the cake as toppers.

The latest trend, the achievement cake, is essentially the same—but it’s a more personal and wholesome take.

Instead of your crushes’ images, you will take a piece of paper and write your own accomplishment that you’re proudest of this year. The trend is usually done during gatherings with friends or loved ones. Once everyone has theirs prepared, you will take turns reading your entries out loud and adding them to the cake, and each one will be met with a round of applause.

You can also do this on your own, and you’re not limited to cake if you have another preferred indulgence. Either way, the message is clear: Every win, no matter how small, deserves to be celebrated.

It’s a gentle reminder to pause and to give yourself and others a well-deserved pat on the back. By sharing stories, celebrating milestones, and honoring wins no matter how big or small, the season takes on a deeper sense of meaning. After a long year, the simple act of exchanging kind words and applause feels especially fitting—and is a trend well worth hopping on!
