The year 1998 has been a popular setting for certain K-dramas. Take Twenty-Five and Twenty-One and the recent A Time Called You as prime examples, whose nostalgic settings make the perfect backdrop for their heart-wrenching stories.
But, a fun fact: Time isn’t the only thing these dramas share, as both shows have been shot in similar locations!

An adaptation of the Taiwanese drama Someday or One Day, the Netflix original A Time Called You opens the story in 1998, with the high school student Kwon Min Ju (played by Jeon Yeo Bin) behind the counter of 27 Records, a quaint record store where she works as a part-time employee. Later on in the scene, she is joined by her schoolmates Nam Si Heon (Ahn Hyo Seop) and Jung In Gyu (Kang Hoon).

Staunch K-drama viewers might find the setting a bit familiar, as the location has already been heavily featured in another popular series. In the 2022 drama Twenty-Five Twenty-One, its first episode sees Kim Tae Ri’s Na Hee Do making a run to her local comic book store, where Nam Joo Hyuk’s Baek Yi Jin works.

The two dramas feature the same street in Seohakdong, an art village in Jeonju, South Korea, with both the stores found right across from each other. 27 Records was originally the gallery and studio of visual artist Han Sook, but it was later transformed into a record store for the setting of Twenty-Five Twenty-One. They ended up using it for A Time Called You, too!

Seohkadong Village is located in Jeollabuk-do, Jeonju-si, Pungnam-dong, South Korea. A Time Called You and Twenty-Five Twenty-One are streaming on Netflix.
