Girls, interrupted. These three freshmakers play it cool and show that there’s more to them than their famous surnames.
Kiana Valenciano
On pursuing a career in music:
“With the industry nowadays, what you produce has to be excellent. And if I were to join the music scene, that’s how I’d want my work to be: excellent, artful.”
Kiana wears many hats. To name a few: budding fashion designer, singer, and Gary Valenciano’s beloved youngest child. In fact, it was being the only daughter of one of the country’s biggest pop stars that inspired her to pursue a degree in fashion design. “When you’ve grown up in so many different dressing rooms with so many different talents and artists, you get to experience how their dresses are created, I started to see how clothes were made, and I really got into it that way.” Not only that, but she is also quite certain that a music career is in the books for her.
Janine Gutierrez
On carving her own name in the fickle, ever-shifting showbiz industry:
“Don’t compare yourself to those around you. Do your own thing, and making a name for yourself will come naturally.”
Hailing from a long, long line of famous faces, Janine confesses that she hasn’t always seen herself following in her mom Lotlot de Leon and dad Monching Gutierrez’s footsteps. “It’s something that I wasn’t expecting when I was younger,” she says thoughtfully of her decision to pursue acting. “But now, it’s all I want to do.” And do it she most definitely will.
Claudia Barretto
Her reaction when people call her beautiful:
“I smile and say a simple thank you.”
Claudia is living testimony to the conspiracy theory that perhaps, Barretto women are hiding something: a beauty potion, a fountain of youth, or just some really good face cream. But you’ll never get the secret out of her, because despite growing up in the public eye, with the world of showbiz as her reality instead of a realm of make-believe, she is meek and quiet and lovely. She holds her own, is polite, and is serene.
