We may or may not have gone 31 months deep into Nadine Lustre's Instagram account in search of food photography tips! Below are some of the tricks we learned.
1. Use natural light.
Nadine is pretty consistent with the use of natural light in her food photos, whether it's taken near a big window or outdoors. We can't blame her—it's the easiest way to make food all photos look great!
2. Think of the color composition.
It's pretty obvious in her feed that Nadine's more into muted and neutral hues rather than bright pops of color, but whatever she decides to post, she makes sure it has a nice color scheme.
3. Keep in mind the angle.
It's safe to say that the best angle for food photography seems to be top shots, or at least that's the angle Nadz prefers—and her shots look great!
4. Leave white spaces.
Nadine likes to leave a lot of "breathing room" for her photos, which makes sense, because it helps keep the composition balanced.
5. Pick a neutral background.
Very rarely has Nadine taken a food photo against a colored or patterned background. She almost always uses either white, dark, or neutral backgrounds to make food the focus of her picture.
6. Show the details.
If she's not taking top shots or including the elements around her food, Nadine likes to zero in on the details—the lines, the texture, or how it glistens when hit by light.
7. Play with light and shadows.
Doing so can make the food photo look more dramatic/artistic.
8. Add a human element.
It's no secret that Nadine likes to include snippets of her accessories or #OOTDs in her shots. It doesn't only add a personal touch, but warmth, too.
9. Use props.
Make sure that your props don't steal the spotlight away from the food by using accessories with neutral shades. Using props is also a great way to tell a story.
