6 Habits That Are Making Your Holiday Stress Worse Make this season truly merry.

Let’s admit it: the –ber months can be the most stressful time of the year because of all the preparations that need to be done. With Christmas just a few days away, don’t let these habits get in the way of a merry celebration.

1. You do your Christmas shopping during the weekend.
This season, even the weekend isn’t spared from the dreaded traffic. So if you want to go home early and not get stuck along EDSA, do your Christmas shopping early or set a day when people are most likely at work.

2. You try to perfect your family traditions.
Recreating Christmas traditions is a good thing, but if perfecting it is taking a toll on your health and is damaging your relationship with your loved ones, then you may need to take a step back. Keep in mind that it’s not about making seamless traditions but memorable ones.

3. You don’t stick to a budget.
During this holiday, everyone is in a festive, generous mood and sometimes, you can’t help but spend more than you can actually afford. Carol Goldberg, PhD, a New York psychologist, suggests: "Set a budget and don't go above it." This way, after playing Santa to your inaanaks and family, you still have extra money to buy a little something for yourself.

4. You set high expectations.
You want everythingand we mean EVERYTHINGperfect. While it’s good to aim for the best when it comes to holiday preparations, remember that it shouldn’t stress you out. Christmas is supposed to be a season of love and joy–not stress.

5. You’re not organized.
A lot of things are happening during this season–Christmas parties, family gatherings, and reunions with your friends. It can be overwhelming and if you don’t have a game plan, you might end up not attending any of them.

6. You don’t watch what you eat.
Christmas is so festive that it's easy to lose track of what you’re eating and drinking. If you want to be stress-free during the holidays, lay off on the beer–or at least cut down. According to a study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, alcohol can actually add to your stress
