Tomorrow, Manila’s collegiate kids (and alumni alike) will all be tuned into their boob tube for the annual UAAP Cheerdance Competition. We heard eight-time champs and this year’s hosts, the UP Pep Squad, will be opening the hard court; while their cheer-rival, the UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe, is set to perform last. But of course, we all know that the sequencing is never the issue. We're expecting a full-on battle from these cheerleaders, but while we wait, here's a list of our favorite films to get you perked up for the show.
1. BRING IT ON
P.S. This trailer doesn’t do the film justice.
“Brr, it’s cold in here.” You can’t honestly say you haven’t heard that before! Bring It On is THE movie that started it all. If spirit fingers, Toros Vs. Clovers, and Kirsten Dunst against Gabrielle Union don’t ring a bell, then we suggest you watch this, stat!
2. BRING IT ON: ALL OR NOTHING
Before Hayden became a hero and made 'Save the Cheerleader, Save the World' popular.
Bring It On Again had us disappointed, but not this installment. All or Nothing stars Hayden Panettiere and Queen Bey’s lil’ sis Solange Knowles in this cheer film. Watch it and chant your own Shabooya Roll Call.
3. BRING IT ON: FIGHT TO THE FINISH
Cheer dream team.
We don’t even want to discuss the ‘Shets’ from Bring It On: In It To Win It. Good thing Christina Milian brought in the spicy hot Latina flavor to the last known Bring It On film! P.S. Cutie Cody Longo is another reason you should watch this.
4. SUGAR & SPICE
This is what happens when cheerleaders go all Bonnie sans Clyde.
Not all our favorites are from the Bring It On series, mind you. Unlike other cheer films, this one is not solely focused on winning the regionals or perfecting a routine.
5. FIRED UP
Watch what happens when football players decide to go to cheer camp… to score girls. It’s a fun, feel-good movie and Nicholas D’Agosto is a total eye candy!
Starring Ashley Tisdale and Aly Michalka, this TV series will make you bust a move. It only lasted one season, but it's still worth watching.
Now, go put on a happy cheer face. It's Fri-yay!
