5 Reasons Why Traveling is Good for Your Health It can keep the doctor away!

Like eating fruits and vegetables or proper exercise, travel is good for your health. You may think that you need to be in tip-top shape before you travel, but according to psychologist Paul D. Nussbaum in an article for, “Travel is also good medicine when it comes to brain health.” As we get older, travel can make our bodies and minds healthier. Not convinced? Read on to find out how.

1. Exploring boosts your brain activity.

Going to uncharted territories can actually boost brain activity. Doing new things, particularly exploring new places, helps develop your brain and boosts cognitive activity because you really have to think and plan to be able to find your way. Simply think of it like a puzzle you need to solve. The more solving you do, the better your brain develops, and in turn the better your skills become.

2. Vacations can slow down aging.

Just having thoughts of going to the beach to relax or having a staycation to chill helps your mental health. These types of vacations can also help lower your overall stress levels, and in turn, stop you from aging too rapidly. By taking the time to slow down, you are giving your body the opportunity to rest and recover from job strain or other problems.

3. Travel is great exercise.

If you like doing adventurous activities when you travel like hiking and diving, that's great because these are good for your body. These high-octane activities give you the opportunity to really use your body and exercise your muscles (some of which you don’t normally get to stretch). If you aren’t the type who exercises regularly, you can plan active trips as a substitute. At the end of the day, vacations like these won’t even make you feel like you’re exercising because you’re just having fun.

4. Going on trips helps you develop a better outlook in life.

The more you travel, the more places you see and the more experiences you have. These all contribute to helping you create a new outlook in life. This can affect your health in ways like increased productivity at work and a more cheerful mood in general. Overall, you can get more satisfaction out of life if you’re able to travel every once in a while.

5. Travel gives your life meaning.

We all want to have or find our reason for living. Some people aren’t able to find their purpose in life, and they become uninspired and depressed. Travel can become your purpose; that is, to see and explore the world, bringing a wealth of riches for your body and soul. Even if you don’t have all the money in the world or you live a simple life, at least you have the drive to keep going if you know there's more to discover and learn.
