Metro Manila is a fickle mistress—food fads seem to come and go every other week. But, in the illustrious words of Tumblr bloggers everywhere, “stressed” spelled backwards is “desserts.” Tuck into these out-of-this-world sweet treats next time you need a pick-me-up.

1. Sizzling Matcha Waffle

So you’ve been to various iterations of the “sizzling plate” restaurant, but nobody saw this coming: a bubbling, searing plate of matcha cream surrounding a waffle bed and topped with a serving of Milkbox ice cream. It’s so deliciously indulgent, every bite feels like a guilt trip. But as soon as the smell of hot matcha reaches your nose for the first time, you won’t be able to resist.

2. Latte Under a Cloud

Cotton candy? Usual carnival fare. Lattés? Nothing the neighborhood Starbucks doesn’t have. But Café Fratello, God bless them, decided to fuse the two together to create a “latte under a cloud.” The dessert isn’t just Instagrammable (doesn’t it look like a dude with an afro?); the combination of caffeine and candy makes the cotton melt in your mouth, too. And here’s where you sigh deeply.


3. S'mores Fries

S’mores, in themselves, are a messed-up creation if you think about it (a few decades ago, we’re guessing some silly Boy Scouts needed to sweeten up their makeshift dinner with the limited rations they had on hand). World of Fries brings the classic campfire staple to its menu by topping its house fries with graham crumbs, a generous drizzle of chocolate syrup, and a heaping of marshmallows. As the salted caramel craze has proven, the sweet-salty combo is foolproof.


4. The CONEundrum

This is the laziest but most ingenious dessert on this list—it’s just a mishmash of ice cream scoops, topped with cones, syrup, and sprinkles. It’s what your eight-year-old nephew would make for himself if you told him he could have anything for breakfast. And your eight-year-old nephew would be on to something, because the CONEundrum is so simple yet so perfect. Why didn’t anyone think of this before?!


5. Nutella Soup

If you’re among the folks who are still hung up on the 2013 Nutella hype, Gino’s Brick Oven Pizza has got you covered. When you’re done wolfing down their savory pizzas, order up a serving of liquid Nutella to send you straight to nirvana. And if that isn’t enough, the pizza crust “bowl” is also edible, btw.
