Could we be seeing the new face of concerts?

English singer Sam Fender just held an outdoor live concert in the UK amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and over 2500 people came in attendance. They, of course, followed social distancing protocols as the audience was separated into 500 fenced-off metal platforms that could hold five people each.

The said platforms scattered around the Virgin Money Unity Arena in Newcastle were spaced two meters apart and were built especially for the event. In a tweet by concert organizer Virgin Money, tickets for the show sold out quick for what’s now being reported as the UK’s first musical event since the country imposed coronavirus-related restrictions last March.

Photos of the event spread across social media as both attendees and onlookers alike shared their mostly positive thoughts on what could possibly be the new normal for concerts.

That said, this isn't the first unique solution thought of by the music industry. Another socially distanced concert was held just a month prior in Ukraine. Instead of metal platforms, fans of rock band O.Torvald booked rooms for up to four guests at the Hotel Bratislava. Dubbed as a vertical concert, the audience watched their favorite music group while separated into balconies.

“It’s hard to put into words [what it’s like] when you’re performing in front of the hotel, and people from all balconies are singing your songs in unison, shining lanterns and making ‘snow’ from napkins. Pure buzz,” the band’s frontman Zhenya Halych explains.
