The 2017 live-action remake of the Disney film Beauty and the Beast raked in a whopping $170 million dollars in its debut weekend. Queues to cinemas continue to snake through malls, and if you haven't watched it yet, you really should. For those who were fortunate enough to catch it already, here are a few details you might have missed and some thoughts you might have had while watching the film.
1. In the opening credits, the castle commonly seen at the beginning of every Disney movie is replaced with Prince Adam’s castle, which is massive in scale compared to the animated film’s castle.

2. The opening scene explaining how Prince Adam turned into the Beast carefully includes the reason as to why the prince, his castle, and all those who lived in it were forgotten. In the spell she had cast, the enchantress conveniently included that they would not be remembered. That reason is not in the animated film.
3. As Belle takes a stroll around the village, she talks to Monsieur Jean and asks if he’s lost something again. He responds by saying he doesn’t remember. Monsieur Jean is actually Mr. Potts, as revealed at the end of the movie. We’re guessing that he’s constantly trying to remember that he’s lost Mrs. Potts and Chip.

4. The reason behind teacup Chip’s chip is because the real Chip has a missing tooth.
5. When Lumiere sings Be Our Guest, the line “10 years we’ve been rusting” in the 1991 animated film underwent an alteration to become “too long we’ve been rusting.” The latest film never mentions how long the curse lasted. Likewise, after that famous ballroom scene, the Beast tells Belle, “I haven’t danced in years.” How many years exactly? We’ll never know.
6. Since the enchanted palace is isolated, did you wonder how the large household obtains its provisions? Surely the ingredients for beef ragout, cheese soufflé, pie and pudding en flambe had to come from a market? Or did the meals follow a lawn-to-table format?

7. During Be Our Guest, Cogsworth suddenly comes to life and joins the ensemble with a turban on his head and a miniature version of Aladdin’s palace behind him.
8. In the 2017 version, Chip is Mrs. Potts’ only son. The animated film had a cupboard full of teacups, which Mrs. Potts referred to as Chip’s brothers and sisters.

9. Gaston is given a more dastardly role in the live-action remake. While in the animated film, he assigned an asylum caretaker to take Maurice away, the 2017 Gaston does this himself, and also goes a step further, tying the aging artist to a tree to leave him to be eaten by wolves.

10. As Belle flees the castle after the Beast scares her away, Philippe the horse happens to conveniently be there. Didn’t the steed bring Belle's father Maurice back home to Villeneuve before Belle escaped? Did the horse decide to go back to the palace entrance?
11. When Belle encounters wolves in the forest, she is saved by the Beast, who gets badly hurt. To save him, Belle gets him on horseback. How? In the animated version, that part was cut out. But the mystery's been solved. In the live-action film, she enlists his help in getting up. "I need you to help me," she says. "I need you to stand."

12. The new song Days in the Sun replaced Human Again, a song by the palace staff about their desire to turn back into their human selves. The new song, among two other additions, gives the scene a rather melancholic touch.
13. After 26 years, we’re finally given a better understanding of the Beast and his backstory. Mrs. Potts explains that his tyrannical king of a father raised him poorly after his mother died. So, yes, he did have parents.

14. During the scene of the Beast and Belle dancing in the ballroom, you may notice the initials "WD" subtly emblazoned on the floor. This is a tribute to Walt Disney.

15. Mrs. Potts first discovers Mr. Potts while she is pouring boiling water onto some of the villagers during the final scenes.
16. While fighting off the villagers, harpsichord Maestro Cadenza shoots at his rivals with his keys. After turning human again, he's comically lost all his teeth.
