We keep our distance from the issues hounding Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach's month-long reign—her coronation, among others—and choose to keep things fun.
Here are a few more things worth knowing about our brand new Pinay beauty queen. One thing we discovered: Beyond the controversies and all the pageant cliché, she is very much like the rest of us—only in five-inch platform heels!
1. “Hoping for the best but expecting the worst. Are you gonna drop the bomb or not?”
The lyrics of Jay-Z’s Forever Young was Pia’s motivation throughout the competition.
2. What a Girl Wants
Christina Aguilera was on full blast as she waited for her turn to answer the final question, Pia shares.
The amount of taxes she will pay for the Miss Universe crown that is only “on loan” to her during her reign
4. Francis Libiran, Cheetah Rivera, and Albert Andrada
The designers whose pieces she will incorporate in her Miss Universe wardrobe. The guys over at Miss Universe Organization liked the pieces that were presented to Pia well enough that they allowed these designer’s pieces to be flown to New York.
5. More than 12 hours
The number of hours she could walk in five-inch platform heels. True story: On the day of the Miss Universe pageant, she wore her Chinese Laundry heels from the final dress rehearsals in the daytime to the press conference that followed her unorthodox coronation. “I survived! I’m glad they’re comfortable.”
The new Miss Universe admits to being single these days and was game enough to joke about it.
7. Three notebooks
Her collection of pageant questions for every year that she joined the local search. Interestingly, all three notebooks are filled with just questions—no answers.
8. “And she lived happily ever after.”
While her best friend Pauleen Luna is tying the knot with Vic Sotto, the Miss Universe crown is Pia’s version of “a boyfriend.”
9. “An old soul”
This is how Miss Universe Organization president Paula Shugart describes Pia.
10. “I really have to do well here since I said I was gonna win and now I can’t take it back! I can’t show face in Manila if I lose!”
Remember that controversial tweet? Pia says it would have been really embarrassing to come home without the Miss Universe crown.
11. Miss Universe Philippines 2012 Shamcey Supsup
She gave Pia the best advice before the pageant. We summarize it to a 4-point list: (1) Come in really strong; (2) Know when to pull back; (3) Save your energy for the moments that matter; (4) Know when to peak.
