We've got to admit, the pandemic has been making us try things we've never really done before. One common thing we've seen this past year is people resorting to cutting their own hair at home. It's risky, sure, but if you've been on the hunt for a new hairstyle to spice up your look, a DIY haircut that's trending on TikTok right now could be for you.
What is the "wolf cut" haircut?
The "Wolf Cut," as Tiktokers call it, is a hairstyle with wavy, gradual layers and choppy bangs that frame the face. Think of a mix between a mullet and a shag cut, but a bit more wearable for modern times! For us, it's probably called the wolf cut because of how the hair is cut similar to a wolf's fur, which starts with a short undercoat at the top of the body then long coarse hairs at the end. The whole look gives off an edgy yet chic vibe and suits everyone with different hair lengths.
Though Tiktokers have only recently jumped on this trend, this hairstyle actually has been popular for quite a few decades now. The shag cut was huge in the '70s, while the mullet was a major trend of the '90s. Now, we have a hybrid of the two for the 2020s.
In recent years, we’ve seen international celebrities such as Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, Zendaya, Halsey, and many more rocking variatioms of this hairstyle, proving time and time again that this cut is timeless and is here to stay.

We've also spotted versions of the wolf cut on Asian celebrities through the years, such as K-drama actresses Suzy Bae, Lee Joo Young, and Japanese model Hikari Mori. Now, it's even donned by local celebrities such as Gabs Gibbs and Awra Briguela, to more Hollywood stars like Billie Eilish and Debby Ryan.

Convinced to try it yet? The wolf cut is easy to recreate at home, but you can always have a pro cut it for you if you want to nail it at the first try.
If you're going the DIY route, this tutorial on TikTok is the most viewed video when you search #WolfCut on the platform. User coolmadsgames basically cut her overgrown mullet into layers of different lengths to achieve the style.
For our medium to long-length haired gals, the wolf cut will also look great on you. Just note that the wolf cut requires heat styling to look its best! Check out this awesome transformation from TikTok user dessyaditya:
