The actress and activist, once known for her bombshell image and signature glam, has embraced a strikingly pared-down look in recent years. But while her makeup-free appearances have made headlines and ignited a cultural conversation, the decision itself was deeply personal.

Why Pamela Anderson Stopped Wearing Makeup
In a 2023 interview with Elle, Pamela revealed that her minimalist turn came in the wake of losing her longtime makeup artist and friend, Alexis Vogel, to breast cancer in 2019. “She was the best,” Pamela said. “And since then, I just felt, without Alexis, it’s just better for me not to wear makeup.” The shift wasn’t just aesthetic—it was emotional, cathartic, and, as she described it, “freeing, and fun, and a little rebellious too.”

The former Baywatch star has long had a penchant for pushing back against the expected. “I did notice that there were all these people doing big makeup looks, and it’s just like me to go against the grain and do the opposite of what everyone’s doing,” she told Elle. From red carpets to fashion week, Pamela has consistently stepped out bare-faced—her decision more an act of self-acceptance than performance.
The reaction has been overwhelmingly positive. After attending Paris Fashion Week in 2023 without makeup, Pamela told People, “I really didn’t know anyone would notice it, but I’m glad it became a positive message.” The move resonated so strongly that it soon became a symbol of bare-faced beauty, drawing comparisons to the likes of Alicia Keys, who has also championed a more natural look.

But Pamela is quick to clarify that going makeup-free wasn’t some grand statement—it was simply a matter of doing what felt right. “I’m makeup-free at home, so why not for Paris Fashion Week?” she said. “I don’t have to be cool anymore. I can just be me.”
That sense of ease and authenticity carries over to the rest of her life. Now living on Vancouver Island, she spends her days gardening, meditating, and working on projects centered on sustainability. As she told Better Homes & Gardens, her life has shifted from the high-gloss Hollywood version of herself to something more grounded. “That was the beginning of me letting go of the image I had always had of myself,” she said. “What is this cartoon character that I’d created? OK, that was fun. But I’m not that person anymore.”

Still, Pamela isn’t ruling out makeup entirely. “I’m not opposed to it,” she told People, “I just don’t want to play the game. And it felt good to look in the mirror and say, ‘I’m OK just like this.’”
