The ease and elegance of Tricia Gosingtian's style translates perfectly in her approach to beauty. More often than not, you'll spot the blogger and Hinhin founder with her hair up in a loose bun or ponytail, her wispy fringe softly framing her face. She then pairs this with a simple monochrome makeup look that focuses on a vibrant flush and a pigmented lip—a look that's so simple, and yet Tricia has perfected it for herself to the point of distinction. We'd even compare it to the way K-drama leading ladies paint their own faces—polished but not overly-done.
"People assume that achieving my makeup look is difficult. This is why I'd often make short tutorials on my platforms to show that it's not that complicated," she tells Preview, attributing most of her makeup skills from reading magazines and watching tutorials on YouTube. "I want people to know that it just takes courage and time to find out what beauty look you feel best in. If I could do it, you guys can do it, too!"
Hence, after snagging a few tips from her here and there over the years, we thought it was time to get the full 411 on everything she does to achieve her signature look. Keep reading for a guide, as told by Tricia herself.
Tricia's Signature Look
"I would describe my signature makeup look as very East Asian-inspired. I started learning makeup through Japanese magazines, but I also ended up loving Korean beauty in my 20s. I mixed both styles to get the best of both worlds. I love dewy, natural beauty looks more than super polished and perfect ones that require a lot of maintenance."
The Routine
Base and Lips
"For base, I usually go without it if it's just an everyday look. I'll only put concealer to hide my dark circles. However, if I need a more polished look, I’ll use liquid foundation or a cushion to even out my skin tone. My complexion looks dull without highlighter, so I always apply at the highest point of my cheekbones and down my nose line for a subtle shine.
"Since my skin type is quite dry, I tend to lean towards creamy, liquid products instead of mattifying products. I don't want to complicate my life so I use just one product for my cheeks and lips. This is why I have a huge collection of liquid lippies in different shades and consistencies. I like sticking to a theme when it comes to my everyday look. If I'm going to do a coral cheek and lip combo, I'll definitely use something similar or a warmer toned brown for my eyes."
Eyes
"My eye makeup depends on the occasion. In my early 20s, when I would regularly attend events and shoots, I loved emphasizing my eyes with eyeshadow, falsies, and colored contacts. I got so used to how I looked like glammed up that when I removed all my makeup, I didn’t recognize the person staring back at me in the mirror. It made me feel a bit insecure when I didn't have makeup on, so I made a deliberate choice in my mid 20s to minimize gradually. Good thing Japanese and Korean trends ended up favoring a more natural look around that time too, so it wasn't too hard to find the inspiration to transition from heavy to light makeup. Nowadays, I can go without eye makeup as long as I have color on my cheeks and lips."
Brows
"Ever since I had my eyebrows done by Pauline Ylaya, it only takes me 15 seconds to do my brows. My ungroomed (and very sparse) eyebrows have always had a straight-ish shape, so I asked her to just follow a natural curve for a more classic look. I like using a multi-tip liquid eyebrow pen to draw natural strokes that can seamlessly blend with my embroidered eyebrows."
The Shorter, In-a-Rush Version
"I was on my (semi-difficult) first trimester when I launched my brand Hinhin, and the whole whirlwind of work that I had to do during that time definitely trained me to just focus on the essentials. If I only have five minutes, I'll completely do away with eye makeup and just do my brows (one product), concealer (one product) cheeks and lips (one product) and highlighter (one product). Four products in five minutes is totally doable."
