Shopping for foundation can get really expensive. It takes some trial-and-error to come across the perfect coverage and finish, but perhaps the most difficult thing to master is buying the correct shade that matches your skin. So how do you make sure you don’t buy the wrong shade? Easy. Bring a friend with you.
Wait, what?
You may think you’re the one who knows your skin tone best, but if you always end up with the wrong foundation shade, then that might not be the case.
Nine out of 10 times, we think our skin is lighter than it really is, and on the rare occasion, we think it’s darker. Hence, getting a second opinion from someone who also knows makeup would almost guarantee that you'll get the right shade. After all, you only ever see your face in the mirror while others see the real thing with no filters.
Here's how you do it:
Swatch the shades that you think would suit you on your jaw and your chest. Blend them in a little and allow them to set on your skin for a few minutes. Then, in natural light (or at least in the best lighting the store can offer), ask whoever you're with to choose which swatch blended into your skin the best. Once they make their choice, double check if you agree with them. And if you do, voila! You've found your match.
Trust us, it'll keep you from choosing a shade blindly and wasting money.
Good luck!
