The Dos and Don'ts of Wearing Lipstick

A swipe of lipstick can easily make you look put together. Maximize its staying power by following these tried-and-tested guidelines.

Do exfoliate your lips.

 Flaky lips and lipstick don't go together, so grab a lip scrub and slough all the dead skin off. You may also use a wet, soft-bristled toothbrush to rid your lips of the flakes.

Do prep your lips.
A moisturized lip is key to a pretty painted pout, so lip balm is a must. Also, after applying lip balm, you can paint a thin layer of foundation on your lips to help the pigments show vividly.

Do prevent it from bleeding.
Keep your lipstick from feathering by outlining and filling your lips with a lip lipner close to your natural lip color or your lipstick.

Don't go overboard with the lipgloss.
We know that having pillowy, full lip is all the rage now, and applying lipgloss is your shortcut to achieving that, but remember to go easy with it. Simply dab it on the center of your lips. Otherwise, you'll appear like you've smothered a whole piece of greasy lechon—not pleasant at all.
