The Spring 2016 runway shows left us with a hard case of nostalgia as images from the ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s flashed right before our eyes care of the beauty department. Backstage, models were either sporting glittery lids reminiscent of Diane von Furstenberg’s Studio 54 days (she admits that the beauty peg for her show was herself) or graphic fringes ala Twiggy. Here, we recall those prevalent trends which we predict most of us will be sporting in the coming months.
1. ‘60s Lashes
Seen at: Marc Jacobs, Mansur Gavriel, Rebecca Minkoff
Twiggy eyes make a comeback with makeup artists opting to go dark and heavy on lower lashes.
2. Disco Lids
Seen at: Diane von Furstenberg, Creatures of the Wind, Marissa Web
Bianca Jagger, Pat Cleaveland, and NYFW’s very own Diane von Furstenberg serve as the season’s muses as glittery lids in metallic turquoise, purples, and gold send us straight back to the ‘70s.
3. Blushed Eyes
Seen at: Altuzarra, Suno, Jill Stuart
Think of how your eyes look right after a sob fest. Who knew eyes flushed in pink can actually look fresh and bright? Surprised? So are we.
4. Deconstructed Liner
Seen at: Tadashi Shoji, Carmen Marc Valvo, 3.1 Phillip Lim
Gone are the days of precise winged flicks drawn with liquid liner. This season, liners take on wispier strokes, creating abstract shapes on the upper and lower lash line.
5. Clean and Matte
Seen at: Public School, Yeezy, Rodarte
From last season’s strobing, the no-makeup makeup look reverts back to matte with a natural, “untouched” finish.
