Taking Cover

Covergirl's punchy palettes perk us up big time.
Taking Cover Covergirl's punchy palettes perk us up big time.

If you wish to go full throttle with smoky eyes but were always on the fence about looking too intense during the day, a paradigm shift is in order. Work some color theory into the mix with Covergirl's newest and most vivid makeup shades to date, made to perfectly complement any and all summer occasions.

Backstage makeup royalty Pat McGrath, who also takes the helm as P&G's Creative Director, designed the runway-inspired palettes herself. Offering a variety of colors and textures, their 4-Kit Eye Enhancers include "Blast" and "Enhance" shades that can either intensify or soften, depending on your look du jour.

Traditionalists and those aspiring for some sultry evening appeal should check out Drama Eyes or Dynamite Drama, which center on plums, purples, blues and neutrals. Peppy daytime looks are further freshened by sets such as Tropical Fusion and Blossom, which are dominated by pinks, oranges and aqua for some beachy, SoCal-inspired sass.

No smoky eye is complete without major lashes, of course, and Covergirl's LashBlast Mascara anchors down all those brights with a seriously thickening formula. Our favorite way to wear it: three coats on the upper and one coat on lower lashes, for a long, full fringe that accentuates the hottest colors of the season.

Rounding out the happy campers is their Wetslicks AmazeMint Lipgloss, which feels and smells as yum-o as it sounds. Infused with Crest Peppermint Oil, it cools lips on contact while providing a totally slick, stick-free and super shiny punctuation to the whole face. Our favorite shade to rock this summer is the sheer peach Slaphappy, which makes a tropical tan pop.

Covergirl 4-Kit Eye Enhancers, P450; LashBlast Mascara, P575; and Wetslicks AmazeMint Lipgloss, P375, all at leading drugstores and department stores.
