In case you missed it, the team behind Sunnies Studios has launched a makeup line called Sunnies Face. For its initial drop, the brand has revealed a full range of lip products that might just change your matte lip game. Preview got first dibs before the official launch on August 8, so keep reading for an exclusive first look!
Sunnies Face's Fluffmatte Lipstick is described as "a weightless modern matte lipstick" with a finish that imitates your lips but better. It comes in nine warm-toned shades, packaged in an equally matte off-white bullet. It's also both paraben and cruelty-free.

Even with five out of nine being a variation of nude colors, each nude is impressively distinct enough for you to find your perfect shade. For one, we think Nudist is a fantastic nude for medium skin tones, while Milkshake is a universally-flattering muted rose. Then there's Vacay, a trendy nude peach; Baked, a bright terracotta; and Girl Crush, reddish pink that looks lovely when worn as a gradient lip.

On to the brights, Hot Sauce is the perfect red-orange for warm-toned skin. Though, that's not to discredit Major, which is a true bloody red that everyone needs in their collection. Meanwhile, the darkest hues in the collection will remind you of the popular lipstick shades from the '90s. There's Mood, an updated greige; and 143, a rosy brown which was widely popular back in 2012.

So, what's the formula like? Well, the name of the lipstick basically says it all. This is a kind of matte that won't drag your lips during application and still manage to give you a shine-free finish. It feels neither tacky nor powdery, but we do recommend blotting off your lip balm before applying the lipstick to achieve a velvety finish. Overall, for P345 a piece, the Fluffmatte is a reliable tube you wouldn't regret stocking up on.
We talked more about Sunnies Face with two of the brains behind the beauty brand, Bea Soriano-Dee and Martine Cajucom. Read all about it below:
Why did makeup become the next step for Sunnies Studios?
Bea: "Makeup has always been a dream from the beginning and it was always part of the big plan for Sunnies Studios as a lifestyle brand. Just like Sunnies Specs Optical and Sunnies Café, Sunnies Face ties into our philosophy of design-driven and color-obsessed products that is made accessible for all."
Did anyone from the team have any prior experience with building a beauty brand and product? Or was it everyone’s first rodeo?
Bea: "It's everyone’s first and it's really exciting! We learn something new every day!"
How did the team decide on the formula and the shades?
Martine: "It was one of the most painful experiences throughout this process but also the most rewarding. The four of us each had 100 favorite colors and we would lobby for each one. But the second we would test a color and it wouldn't look good on a particular skin tone, that was an easy decision to make—our goal has always been to achieve a palette that looks good on every skin tone. And with Fluffmatte, it's a collection of nine universally flattering warm tones that would look good on everyone."
"As for the formula, we wanted the best of the best for our brand and it took 22 lab samples to get it just right. It's the perfect matte but moisturizing lipstick, comfortable [enough] to wear for every day but also so, so pigmented. We're so proud of this formula and we can't wait for you to try it!"
There are already tons of lipsticks in the market today. How does Sunnies Face aim to stand out?
Martine: "This is a luxury lipstick at a price that feels right, a price that feels inclusive. What we do at Sunnies Studios is always about design, color, and accessibility. We always ask ourselves: What's so great [about something] if it isn't made accessible?"
Can't wait to grab a shade? Well, mark those calendars! The Fluffmatte lipstick will be available on Sunnies Face's website on August 8 and in Sunnies stores on August 10. Happy swatching!
