The sun-kissed skin makeup look is the talk of the town currently. With stars like Andrea Brillantes and Sofia Andres rocking the mug, it’s hard not to want to replicate it. But for light-skinned folks, achieving this look isn’t always easy, especially when basking in the sun might just turn them a shade too red.
However, the right tools and know-how can help you lock in the look, no matter your complexion. We recruited celebrity makeup artist Mila Gulfan for a quick 101 on getting the mug done without it looking patchy at all. Read on for her tips below!
7 Tips on How to Do a Sun-Kissed Makeup Look for Light Skin
1. Start off with a hydrated base.
Before anything else, start off with a moisturizing sunscreen to hydrate the skin. This will keep it supple, protected, and feel its best prior to adding color. Mila prefers to use a 2-in-1 moisturizer and sunscreen Avene Hydrance UV Light Hydrating Emulsion SPF30, which gives a natural rosy glow after massaging it onto the skin.

2. Use a cream bronzer after your base makeup.
Once foundation and concealer have been placed, it’s time to add warmth to the face. Mila likes to use a cream bronzer such as the Issy & Co. Creme Bronzer in Toast. “Apply cream bronzer on the high points of your face that the sun would usually hit such as the sides of your forehead, bridge of the nose, cheekbones and the chin,” says the makeup artist.

3. Set your cream bronzer with a bronzer powder.
To prevent the base and cream bronzer from sliding, dust off a translucent powder for your base, and brush the cream bronzer with bronzing powder for added warmth. Mila uses the cult-fave Nars Bronzing Powder in Laguna which has a slightly pearlescent finish to get you a healthy glow. “You can also use the bronzing powder as an eyeshadow to achieve a monochromatic makeup look,” Mila suggests.

4. Use a muted rose blush for the cheeks.
A sun-kissed look won’t be complete without some rosy cheeks. The makeup artist recommends using a muted rose blush like the GRWM Cosmetics Milk Tint in Fruit Tea, which she applies on the cheeks and slightly across the bridge of the nose. “It mimics the red flush you get when you step out into the sun,” she says.

5. Add some highlight!
According to Mila, the “highlight” of this makeup look is “strategically placing a warm champagne highlighter on the high points of your face.” She suggests the R.E.M. Interstellar Highlighter Topper in Miss Mercury to give that natural glow from the sun.

6. Nourish your lips with lip oil.
This makeup look pairs well with a natural and glossy lip shade. For a subtle hint of color that will complete this sun-kissed look, Strokes Beauty Lab’s Silk Kiss in My Lips But Better is the perfect addition!

7. Seal everything with a refreshing face mist.
To lock in the makeup for that seamless look, facial mist is the needed last ingredient. “Spritzing a hydrating coconut facial mist all over your face to remind you of your tropical vacation,” says Mila. Clocheflame’s TLC Spray Restorative Facial Mist is what she highly suggests.
