Your 30s is the time when you'll start to notice many changes in your skin. While they're completely normal, it's good to take the initiative to take extra care of yourself. 

In an interview, Dr. Kaycee Reyes of Luminisce Holistic Skin Innovations shares the simplest yet the most often-forgotten secret to maintaining one's youthful glow in their 30s: Applying sunscreen

"The number one cause of aging is sun exposure," underlines Dr. Kaycee Reyes of Luminisce Holistic Skin Innovations "Although it’s good how the sun causes the production of vitamin D [in our skin], may harmful rays pa din siya that cause DNA breakage," resulting in fine lines and wrinkles. 

However, the dermatologist points out that it's not enough to apply sunscreen once. "Apply sunblock at least three times a day because after four hours, it’s gone, even if it’s SPF 40 or 90." 

While sun protection is one crucial step to preventing signs of aging, Dr. Kaycee also brought to light the importance of visiting your dermatologist at least once a year. 


"Everything changes as we age. At the age of 50 to 60, mabilis [tayong Asians] mag age in terms of sa bone so nawawala 'yong structure [sa jawline, under-eye area]. Then what happens with the collagen, the hyaluronic acid, and the tissues, they tend to go down because of exposure to free radicals kaya nawawala 'yong volume."

"Sa skin naman, the pores become bigger as we age. We form pigmentation so hindi talaga puwede na topical treatment lang," advises Dr. Kaycee, noting the importance of investing in beauty treatments on top of skincare. "[Topical treatments are] not enough kasi it’s not only the skin that changes. I mean, topical is nice, especially if you apply topical antioxidants pero may ilalim pa, eh," referring to the deeper layers of the skin." [It would be] best if you’re in your late 20s to 30s to do something preventive." 

Her recommendation?  "I would suggest investing in an energy device that will lift the face kahit once a year. [It's not just for vanity.] It’s more of prevention."

Try investing in skin-lifting procedures

"Ulthera and Thermage 'yong sikat ngayon because they go very deep [into the skin] but you don’t have to do [these exact procedures]. There are other devices that can lift the face. You don’t need to do a very expensive procedure. The important thing is maintenance," Dr. Kaycee points out. 


"[Another] good machine available in the market is the Ultraformer. It’s very popular in Asia. We call it the 'Face Lift Tite' in the clinic."


"Aside from machines, there are procedures like [Volite], which involves injecting hyaluronic acid to the bone," suggests the beauty expert, adding that this procedure helps prevent sagging skin, as well as treat dryness and acne scarring.

If you're on a budget, try facial treatments 

Another affordable treatment for skin maintenance is the Madonna Facial, which can treat fine lines and wrinkles, collagen production, tightening, and more. She suggests, "If you’re not okay with the once or twice a year treatment then you can do a once-a-month treatment like Madonna facial, which has radiofrequency for lifting and it’s not as expensive. It also has brightening and cleaning [benefits]." According to Dr. Kaycee, one session will cost you around P9000+, which you can do for three to six times a year.
