Major beauty buzz from Shu Uemura ladies! The brand is changing the way we buy shadows and blush with Color Atelier. Their new system of customizing palettes lets you choose the exact shades you want so you can say goodbye to buying a palette for just 1 or 2 colors. On an earth- and price-friendly note, the cases are refillable meaning a) you won’t have to keep throwing out empty makeup containers like before and b) you’ll save more in the long run since refills are cheaper at P1095 for Glow Ons and P695 for Pressed Eye Shadows.

The brand’s Business Development Manager, Nina Solano, tells us that Shu will slowly be phasing out the older eye shadow and blush stocks, whose cases are actually bulkier, to transition into this new form of packaging. Don’t worry; you’ll still be able to find your favorite shades. In fact they’ve introduced more hues with a roster of 65 new Pressed Eye Shadow colors and 28 new Glow Ons (read: blush) to choose from. Imagine the possibilities; as Mr. Shu Uemura said, “There are as many colors as women.”

Palettes come in 3 sizes: the mono, P450, fits one Pressed Eye Shadow; a duo case, P500, can fit 2 Pressed Eye Shadows or one Glow On; and the quad, P1095, can fit 4 Pressed Eye Shadows or 2 Pressed Eye Shadows and one Glow On. Note: these prices are for the cases only. Simply tack on the cost of the refills to get the total price of your chosen palette.

Adding to the fun, for the tech-savvy among you, are the Color Atelier applications you can play with on Facebook (via http://apps.facebook.com/color_atelier/) or an iPhone (My Palette Stylist in the iTunes store). The former makes you answer a few questions before giving you a suggested palette combination. The latter lets you pick the colors to create your own virtual palette, revealing your style personality after. Both give tips on how to apply the makeup but with the phone application, you actually get to test the color on yourself via a photo. It’s a cool new way to try before you buy!

As of press time, we heard that stocks of the quad palettes sold so fast they’ve already had to reorder. It will, however, be a mainstay offering at the boutique so they’re sure to have more of it available soon enough. Meanwhile, the monos and the duos are ready for the taking.
