Sheer Genius 1

Neutrogena's new sunscreen does it all.
Sheer Genius 1 Neutrogena's new sunscreen does it all.

The sun may be M.I.A. these past few days, but that's no reason to scrimp on the SPF. Overcast days are actually more dangerous than direct sunlight, since apart from 40% of UV rays penetrating clouds on those blustery days, people also usually underestimate the exposure they receive and skip sun protection entirely. UVA and UVB rays pierce through and bounce off almost every surface, from glass windows to car doors, and even street pavements and rain puddles, making it a very omnipresent threat.

A woman's ammo against damaging rays, especially for the face, is simple: SPF, and lots of it. Unfortunately, for some, creating an effective barrier means spackling it on by the spoonful and ending up with a goopy, hassle-y mess. We're thankful our friends clued us into Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Complete UV Waterlight Lotion SPF 50+ PA+++—indeed, the abundance of plus signs warms our cancer-phobic hearts. Apart from confirming that less is more, it still retains the brand's patented Dry-Touch technology, making it one of the most lightweight and non-greasy options we've seen (Ed's note: their Ultra Sheer Body Mist spray-on sunscreen was love at first spritz).

Add to that a cocktail of moisturizers and free-radical fighters like Vitamins A, C and E and their trademark Helioplex™, or serious broad spectrum, technology, and you've got something that goes beyond the call of duty.

For days spent in the great indoors, it's best worn as a base under makeup—its SPF of 50 protects against up to 95% of UV rays. Use on a bare face, too, especially when some laying out is in the cards. Dab and spread liberally on the forehead, nose, cheeks and chin half an hour before sun exposure for the most fuss-free results, reapplying, natch, when some water fun occurs.

The second half of the year is here, ladies—keep showing your skin some love!
