Selena Gomez keeps her tattoos rather low-key, but the singer and Rare Beauty founder has quite the collection—16 tattoos, to be exact. If you didn't know, though, we don't blame you. Selena's tattoos are rather small and discreet, while her bigger ones are in easily-concealed places. For example, you'd hardly notice the semi-colon inked on the side of her wrist or the word "rare" by her jaw if you didn't look hard enough.
That said, Selena does have her fair share of prominent inks. In fact, her newest one blew up on the internet just before 2021 ended, mostly because it's the biggest and boldest design she has gotten so far!
On December 15, the musician's go-to tattoo artist Bang Bang Tattoo shared a photo of Selena wearing a backless ensemble. It revealed a new ink on her back from afar, quickly catching the attention of her fans.
Selena's supporters began clamoring for a close-up of the ink since then, and Bang Bang finally delivered on the 29th of December. Turns out, the elusive tattoo is that of a pink rose, done in a delicate watercolor style. Below the flower lies what appears to be a melting candle dripping until her mid-back.
While Selena has yet to explain the meaning of this new ink, it could be related to her mother because of its placement. It's situated right below the LXXVI ink on her nape, which many believe is a tribute to her mother Mandy Teefey, whose birth year is 1976.
In general, however, rose tattoos famously represent love, passion, hope, and compassion. Meanwhile, candles can hold meanings related to faith and spirituality because of its association with religious ceremonies.
