If applying sunscreen is already in your daily beauty regimen (as it should be), then surely you also know the importance of reapplying it every few hours! Rightttt? Even while wearing a full face of makeup, retouching your SPF is crucial. And as complicated as it may sound, it's actually easy breezy. Read on to find out how!
"The key to successful sun protection is reapplication every two hours, thickly," says Dr. Windie Hayano of Skin Inc. Dermatology and Laser Center. But if you're not rocking a makeup-free face for the day, a good face powder should do the trick. Think of it this way: you'll be mattifying your skin and giving it extra protection from the sun!
Don't just go for any powder foundation, though. According to Dr. Alexander Soler, the recommended SPF rating for sunscreen is 30, since it can block 97% of the sun's UVB rays. So you need a powder with at least that number or even higher to actually stay protected. That said, you have to make sure you have a good base of sunscreen under your makeup to start with. This is because powders will only give you minimal protection that won't be enough when you go the beach, for example.
Preview Tip: Instead of using a brush, press the powder onto your skin with a sponge or puff for more opaque coverage.

2. Mist Sunscreen
For a quicker fix, mist on that SPF! This is great for getting some extra hydration and protection without having your foundation melt off. Do note that these are only useful for touchups on regular days as well!
"Face mists [are] a good idea, but do know that there are no conclusive studies that they offer adequate protection," explains Dr. Windie. She also notes that mists have scored the least in dermatology journals when it comes to protection.
Despite that, however, dermatologists still appreciate the innovation. According to Dr. Alexander, as long as we make it a point to reapply our sunscreen every two hours and protect our skin, whatever method we choose should do.

3. Cushion Compacts
Cushion compacts are not only amazing for on-the-go coverage, they're also great for emergency UV protection! Choose your favorite buildable formula with at least an SPF of 30. Use gentle tapping motions to create an even veil over your skin without moving your existing face makeup.
For full protection, Dr. Windie recommends a three-step sun care base routine. Step one is a matte mineral tinted sunblock, followed by a cushion compact or BB cream with SPF for more coverage, and an SPF powder to set the makeup. Follow this daily and you'll be safe under the sun for much longer!
